As we known, there are 3 types of lithium battery cell assembly: pouch cell/prismatic cell/cylindrical cell. Each of these battery assembly processes is different. This essay will talk about pouch cell, which is different from cylindrical and prismatic cells, here are some main features:

  1. Soft packing: Pouch battery cell assembly uses a soft material(aluminum-plastic film) as case to pack the chemical material inside, not use hard packing case. In this way pouch cell can be used for various requirements in shapes and size, so as to increase the design freedom in battery assembly process, also for more special applications.
  2. Light weight: due to use aluminum-plastic film in stead of metal case, pouch cells are of lighter weight, in this way it can reduce the total weight of battery pack.
  3. High energy density: In a certain given space, pouch cells have higher energy density, providing more energy storage capacity.
  4. Good heat dissipation: Since pouch cells are used aluminum-plastic film in stead of metal case, the film offers better heat dissipation, this can enhance safety.
  5. Low self-discharge rate: Pouch cells have lower internal resistance, result in the lower self-discharge rate, this benefit the faster charging and long-term storage applications.

Despite these advantages, pouch cells also have challenges, such as easier physical damage, the need for additional safety measures to ensure protection, and higher requirements for external environmental conditions. Pouch cells have wide use in various application fields, including 3C products and ESS.

We will take mobile phone battery as an example to introduce pouch battery pack machine. As picture below, it is the entire battery assembly(related machine) process and pouch battery pack machine.

Taping Machine: The pouch battery assembly process involves a lot of sticking and wrapping(related machine) processes. Tape may be applied to the head/side/tail of the cell, and there are many types of tape can be applied, including single-side adhesive tape, double-side adhesive tape, protection film, mylar tape, foam tape, high temperature tape, etc.

OCV Testing Machine: In the battery assembly process, OCV testing is an indispensible step. The main function of this machine is to perform OCV testing on the battery cells and perform trimming and leveling on the tabs. It adopts a turntable design and one device can automatically complete multiple processes. It has reasonable structure, high precision and can work quickly, as shown in the figure below:

Laser Welding Machine: In the battery assembly process, laser welding machine is an indispensible part and is also the core process in the battery assembly process. Laser Welding Spots Inspection Machine:After laser welding, it is necessary to automatically detect the working effect. Our inspection machine adopts a turntable design. Battery Tab Bending Machine:Some battery cell assembly processes require tabs to be bent. Our bending machine adopts a turntable design. In addition to tab bending, it can also perform taping or wrapping. It has a reasonable structure, high precision, and can work quickly, as shown in the figure below:

Battery Size Measuring Machine: In the battery assembly process, size measuring is an indispensible step. Our size measuring machine can automatically complete the length, width and thickness testing of the battery cell. Its structure is shown in the figure below:

Battery Testing Machine: In the battery assembly process, performance testing is an essential process. Our battery testing machine can automatically test the performance of the battery. Its structure is shown in the figure below:

Battery Leakage Testing Machine: Among all pouch battery pack machine, there is a special device that is not used in cylindrical or prismatic battery packing, but is used in pouch battery packing(related machine), and that is the battery leakage testing machine, which is used to test whether the battery is leaking. Among pouch battery pack machine, this is a special machine. Some customers don’t even need to use it. It depends on the customer’s project requirements.

The equipment introduced above is fully automated pouch battery pack machine, and there is also semi-automatic pouch battery pack machine. This type of equipment can significantly save equipment costs.
