The house I was testing for lead in was constructed somewhat prior to the prohibition on lead-based paint. There are few tests available for each location in the house I needed to check, and the store-bought testers are pricey. Fortunately, every test came out negative. By comparing it to a 3M lead tester that produced the same result, I confirmed my hunch. To determine whether the test was erroneous, the 3m lead tester had a confirmation card. The three-meter lead test and the Scitus swab test were the first two tests left on the card. It was completely covered in vinegar because I washed for a little too long. However, during the first few seconds of scrubbing, it looked the same color as the 3M brand. A positive test result is seen in the image on the black area on the Scitus swab. For me, both brands of testers seem to be functional. I think this is a wonderful tool if you're checking a lot of locations for lead.
